Snow Valley Farms Inc. abuts or has direct access to four lakes from its property. These lakes are spring fed, cold water lakes that carry fish of uncommon quality for northern Minnesota. The lakes have access by Snow Valley Farms but remain pristine with very few fisherman on an annual basis. It is uncommon to have more than one boat on any of the lakes at any time during the year.
The lakes contain Sunfish, Bluegills, Bass, and Northern Pike. Walleyes have been stocked in the lakes but generally do not do well as lakes are small by walleye standards and the eagles and hawks that populate the lakes seem to prefer them.
The fishing for Northern Pike is brisk as they are sporty fish and very rarely is anyone without a long list of catches. We generally use weedless daredevils, or silver weedless spoons with pork rind trailing to keep the action high. Snow Valley Farms suggest catch and release but does not object to keeping for consumption or trophy by our guests.
It is not uncommon to hear of bear bathing or fishing in the waters of our lakes so we do recommend adult supervision for child fisherman.
Snow Valley Farms Inc. can supply boats for fishing, we do not allow other boats on the lakes as milfoil is not in our lakes and any single spore from an engine cooling system can start the plague. There is no cost to our client/owners for any of recreational activities the Cattle Program families choose to participate in, however is you plan on fishing we recommend you bring your own fishing equipment, bait ,and nets. (There are several bait shops near by)
Snow Valley Farms does not have fish cleaning services but will provide a cleaning area, water, freezer bags, and space for catches going home.
Snow Valley Farms Inc. abuts a State Park with several very hot fishing lakes contained within the park. The part is not well known and even fewer people know it it as a fishing Mecca which it surely is. The lakes are accessible by trailered boat or land fishing, for serious fisherman we recommend bring a boat. The fish are varied, plentiful, and large.
To fish on the lakes you must have a Minnesota State Parks permit to enter, a State Fishing license, and notice to the park rangers where you will be (there are a number of lakes). All boat participants must have personal life preservers and adhere to the fishing laws of the park service and the State of Minnesota.
Most consider a fishing experience in these lake a once in a lifetime outing. Snow Valley Farms has been casually monitoring the activities of the these lakes and found them to rarely used. Very productive for those that can fish the lakes by boat, and unsurpassed for the other wildlife that is a part of the daily existence of the lakes.
